They can't let go of their favorite characters, unlike other mangaka. But yes, they're very much the epitome of ascended fangirls.

Can't let go of their favorite characters, you say? Cough Bleach cough Naruto cough Berseker cough

At least CLAMP puts their characters in completely new situations (let's pick the magic girl and turn her into a mundane gunslinger! And then the non-magic harmless girl and turn her into a magician who summons masses of black tentacles to punish people when not impaling them on ice spikes! And then the combat bots and put them into a love relationship!)

That's kinda my point. Rurouni Kenshin went on for 28 volumes, but you didn't see Yahiko, Tsubame or Sanosuke in Busou Renkin, even though Watsuki mentioned time and again he really, really wanted to write Kenshin once more. (OK, so he did kinda recycled that guy with the gauntlets as a villain, but hey.)

Bleach and Naruto are bad examples because their protagonists are absolute CRAP. I'd rather read a whole manga based on Kon than yet another story arc where Ichigo pulls powers out of his ass to beat whatever it is came knocking this time around. The whole bit with Yamamoto at the start of the latest arc was complete bullshit.

I like to think of Bleach and Naruto as polar opposites.

Bleach started out really interesting and slowly dissolved into unreadable mush and Naruto did close to the opposite. At least as far as how likable the main characters are anyway.

Meh. I think Kubo only realized too late that Ichigo was an unlikeable moron whose only function in the story was to somehow kill things. It's quite obvious that the Gotei Captains have much more interesting personalities and backgrounds to explore, owing in part to their long-lived nature.

I still say he started to kill off powerful but secondary characters for an attempt at shock value, just so he could say "See, people DO die in Bleach" and grab the attention of those who were not reading the manga anymore.

I can't believe Kenichi is actually finished. I've been following that for a long, long time.
Hmm.

Honestly my biggest question with Bleach right now is 'what drugs is Kubo using'?

I don't think he'd be allowed to say it even off-the-record, must be something that shrinks his nads.

Oh yeah, I also saw the new Saint Seiya CG movie that came out a couple of days ago.

It was mindless fun, but I'm not sure whether to LOL or weep for my childhood.

Well, Kubo came up with the idea of 'zombie ghosts', so.

I'm not that far ahead yet. I'm following the Brazillian serialization. Which means a new volume comes out every other blue moon.

I watched it... And my heart was pierced. Hard.

IMO, the only twist I appreciated was

Aside from that, I watched it to the end for the fights. I did not like the story at all...

Well, I wasn't exactly expecting the same story to play out. I enjoyed watching it mostly because I left my childhood at home. I was aware of some of the changes already - though the deployable helmets were a nice touch, even if the Bronze Saints' all looked the same.

I either need to watch Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill again or find some anime with the same level of vessel-bursting hot-bloodedness.

Anything of the historic Super Robot remakes? Shin Mazinger, whatever the Getter Robo one is...*

Latter would probably be closer, from what I know of it.

*Getter Robo Armageddon?

Currently seeking Armaggeddon and Shin Getter vs. Neo Getter, but haven't had the chance to watch either yet.

Shin Getter I've already watched. Though hot-blooded soundtracks and memorable catchphrases help a lot.

Trust me in that I cannot remember which series is called what, and you're better off just looking the publication history up on Wikipedia or something. :lmao

But if you want hot-blooded, just try finding Super Robot stuff. It's essentially obligatory, so long as you're not looking at Evangelion. XD

I recommend Gunbuster if you haven't seen it, though that's pretty short. But amazing.

I've watched Evangelion, and I really enjoyed it. I thought aside from the bio-robot thing it was actually more like a Real Robot series (remember those cables?)...

Hm. Gunbuster sounds good.

EDIT: Shin Getter is also known as New Getter Robo (it's the one that skips the Dinosaur Empire and where Ryouma and co. are complete psychopaths).

Important thing is to remember that Real and Super come from SRW, and are more a method of classifying what the mecha are than the tone of the series; it's just that Gundam and its numerous clones and progeny tend towards one thing, but, well... G Gundam is still Real (barely), and Evangelion is still a Super Robot series, because enormous cyborg alien things and more of a MotW scenario than conflicting sides...

Also SRW tends to de-angst Shinji and then Evangelion loses all Real links at all. :lmao

Gunbuster was the biggest mecha for its time. Later, Gainax one-upped it with Diebuster, and later still they did TTGL, and then STTGL. XD
