Best Ur-Priest builds, including Psionics
« on: December 03, 2011, 02:09:42 AM »
What are everyone's favorite Ur-builds? I'm thinking about making a psionic ur-priest, and wanted to see consensus (on ur-priest builds in general, but with psionics in the mix as well).

Well, I find PBMC's Psion/Beholder Mage/Ur-priest with cerebremancer and psychic theurge to be a nice build, probably one of the stronger ones around, but then, 10 levels of beholder mage already is stronger than most characters would dream to be.

I remember once doing a Monk 1/Ardent 2/Totemist 2/Soul Manifester 4/Ur-priest 2/Psychic Theurge 8/Anarchic Initiate 1 or something. Shouldn't be as overpowered as some you'd be sure to find here, but it sure was fun going around with so many natural attacks while buffed a lot with persist. Pretty SAD, too, as I used the psycarnum thing for persisting spells, along with psionic 9s and divine 9s, and some meldshaping for natural attacks goodness. Mostly, you need WIS and CON, maybe some INT for the reqs, I'm not entirely sure. Pretty versatile, after all.

Still, if you don't want to get too complicated, you could just go ardent 10/ur priest 2/??? with some psychic theurge, for dominant mantle and both 9s too.

Martial Monk 6 / Titan Bloodline 3 / UrP 2 / Ardent 2 / Psychic Theurge 7
The flurry with any light weapon feat + Titan 12 ability = good stuff.
Tashalatora feat is the only other real requirement.
Monk levels: 9+5+10=24 combined with the Martial feat qualifier trick.
Ardent uses Ph00's fast power level access trick. Lots of PsyRef-ing out of combat.
Ur 9s and wonky Ardent 9s. Not totally fleshed out.

Aliek's build has better in-combat specifics and options.

2nd-ing the: Ardent 10 / UrP 2 / PT 7 ... gets Dominant Ideal fun going.
Not quite as tricky or powerful as above. Monk 1 + Tash could be grafted on.

Psion 10 / UrP 2 / PT 7 ... obviously works. Strictly a backliner.

Definitely liking these. What do you guys like about a level 13 gestalt build? Ideas?

Sublime Ur-Theurge - Bard 7 / Mindbender 1 / Ur-Priest 2 / Sublime Chord 2 / Mystic Theurge 8

Make it a savage bard and you can do:
Bard 1-5
Ur-Priest 2
Mystic Theuge 2
Mindbender 1
Sublime Chord 2
Mystic Theuge 3-10

Gets you Ur-Priest spells faster.

I personally like the simple: Savage bard 5/Ur-Priest 2/Cleric PrCs 8/5 Levels of wat.

Ardent 4/Bard 1/Ur-Priest 2/Psychic Theurge 3/Sublime Chord 1/Mystic Theurge 5/Cerebremancer 4, make sure you grab southern magician for the ur casting to grab SC, built this once because I am morally opposed to beholder mage
gets arcane 9s, divine 9s and psi 8s with practiced manifester, assume the use of substitute power and supernatural transformation. Psyreform gets rather fun here.

Let us not forget ur-priests can also be used to great effect with RKVs. You could enter ur-priest at level 6, gain two levels then jump right into RKV. 7 levels later, divine impetus is on, tough you'd probably have troubles with having turn attempts both to persist spells and gain extra actions. Surely some PrCs can help you in that aspect.

You'd have 4 free levels before ur-priest, (One of the 5 being crusader) and can be used towards some extra turning pools and other dips you'd like, and 6 levels after RKV,
which should go towards increasing caster level, but can also reduce your metamagic costs or something. Hathran might be a good choice here, if you can get some serious circle magic running. You can have your persisted buffs here, and have your turn attempts become extra actions, along with some spontaneus spellcasting goodness, tough I'm pretty sure most DMs wouldn't allow th acorn of far travel thing.

Or you can go binder/anima mage, which when paired with unfettered heroism can also grant you metamagic. Main problem would be persisting unfettered heroism.

I'd rather the hathran way, maybe with a dip in some PrC...(Ahem... Tainted Sorcerer from unearthed arcana ain't arcane only, so if by any way you become undead...)

After all this, something like ??? 4(Dips on whatever, you know the drill)/Crusader 1/Ur-priest 2/Ruby Knight Vindicator 7/Hathran 5/Tainted Sorcerer 1.

If you turn your followers into undead, they can also become tainted sorcerers and work on circle magic 24/7. With that last tainted sorcerer level you lose your dependancy on WIS and for being undead on CON. You'd need only CHA by level 20, so I'd say a paladin 2 dip would be in order, for awesome saves.

@Up if you trade two mystic theurge levels for a psychic theurge and a cerebremancer level you should be able to get triple 9s.

Seconding Binder 5/Ur-priest 2/Anima Mage 8/Knight of the Sacred Seal 5.  Not only do you get 9th-level casting and 18th-level binding, but you can get free persists with vestige metamagic.  AND, you can bind Astaroth to completely destroy WBL by crafting as much as you want, using dark craft xp and gold that you got because you have a rocking Knowledge:Religion, and you have divine spells to make into items.  Only requirement is Keeper of the Forbidden Lore to get Spellcraft as a class skill.

Someone asked for a gestalt build - The vURsatile Knight

32 pt buy
Str 12, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 14+2, Wis 16+3, Cha 14+2

Paladin of Tyranny 2/Hexblade 3/Ur Priest 2/Bone Knight 10/Chameleon 2//Feat Rogue 2/Factotum 4/Human Paragon 2/Factotum +7/Psychic Warrior 2/Human Paragon +1/Fighter 2

Feats:
Iron Will, Malign Spell Focus, Able Learner
open - 6 general, 1 feat rogue, 2 psy war, 2 fighter
Floating - 1

Skills:
bluff 6, knowledge arcana 5, knowledge religion 8, knowledge planes 5, spellcraft 8, craft armoursmithing 6, ride 6, bluff 8, disguise 8, sense motive 4
open - 150

BAB + 20
HP 30 + 17d10 + 2d8
excellent saves with mettle and evasion
Bone Knight immunities
Casts as 13th level Ur Priest, 11th level Factotum and 2nd level Chameleon, 2 psychic warrior powers.
etc. etc. etc.

Edit to add: If you take a flaw and take DMM, extend spell, persist spell, silent spell, still spell and empower spell as your general feats then at level 15 you can use Miracle to sub for Aspect of the Wolf and Awaken for self awakening shenanigans and hence an intelligence in the mid 20s and arbitrarily high charisma.

I very simple and yet extremely powerful build:

Ardent 5/Ur Priest 2/Psychic Theurge 8/Ardent 5

Full Psionic and Divine casting with Dominant Ideal ACF.

Very illegal as well. Needs +3 base fortitude save and Ardent only gives +1 at level five. Unless the ACF somehow rectifies that problem, this build doesn't qualify.

Even tough the main use of ur-priest is the quickened spellcasting progression, you also shouldn't forget that it's capstone is also very strong. It is quite viable to go Ur-priest 10 on a build, but I'd say that's so general there's little else to say other than "Add other 10 levels to your taste"

So delay entry to Ur Priest.  If playing at later levels, doesn't matter too much.

18th level binding is a bit over-rated, though. I think I'd rather have more casting. What about:

Sorcerer 4/Binder 1/Ur-Priest 2/Anima Mage 10/Mystic Theurge 3? You wind up casting as a 9th level Ur-Priest (or 10th, either way you get 9th level spells with a high enough wisdom), 9th or 10th level sorcerer, with 11th level binding (13th level for determining the level of vestige you can get).

Of course you could go wizard instead of sorcerer, but you'll be a bit more MAD. You can have Divine Metamagic, Vestige Metamagic, 9th level divine and 5th level arcane spells, and a few tricks from your vestiges (I really like the rerolls from Balam).

You could of course dump the 10th level of Anima Mage and get 10/10 Ur-Priest/Sorcerer casting, but I like the capstone.

Aye. Just pointed out a flaw. I do agree with the general idea of the build though. Perhaps, for once, a Monk dip would not hurt this build. Wisdom based, would give that fortitude save and Practiced Manifester would still keep you at maximum ML...
