Chapter 2: Haxan

"My sisters and I are sensitive to certain matters, and we know of the event outside our city, but not the particulars.  We're also pretty sure you were there to witness it.  As I said, the men may be incurious, but we are not."

[RobbyPants]

"It was... confusing.

I left to see where he went when he took the book, and there were several others there. They started some ritual. Something very large and unseen was out in the forest, but I could perceive it by its movements through the trees."

[bhu]

"And by the time that ritual was done , the unseen was no more I would imagine?"

[RobbyPants]

"...I think so. I didn't perceive any movement in the trees after."

[bhu]

*sighs*  "I suppose Niemand thinks it was for the best.  And who knows? He might be right.  Fighting over control over that thing might have destroyed us all."

Her eyes narrow.

"Why are you alive?  Why did he let you go?"

[RobbyPants]

"He noticed me approaching before I'd even found him. He didn't explain much other than he was banishing some thing that could not be controlled and that he couldn't be interrupted. Some troglodytes approached, and I'd had nothing but trouble from them in the past. I fought them off as they approached me. I'm guessing he was grateful I was there to be between him and the trogs.

He didn't say much else. What was that thing?"

She stares for a moment, but whatever she's thinking she appears to shrug it off.

"A weapon.  One that a good many people thought they could break the will of and use for their own designs.  I guess we'll never find out now.  A few words of caution.  I'm assuming you know Niemand is advanced in certain methods, but probably just not how advanced.  You are not disciplined or learned enough to be meeting with him yet.  Leave that to others who know what they are risking.  And let your people know the Haxan are at war, and it would be best if they stayed well out of the way."
