Augury Part I: New Beginnings

Seeing no one object, Kara said, "Sounds like fun!"

She left to buy ink and parchment to write a note. She wote a short and neat note before handing it to the innkeeper with a pair of silver coins. "If someone from Springley Downs comes asking for us, could you give him this?"

The paper, slightly smeared from being folded before the ink had fully dried, reads in neat Common:

"Dear Squire Mainor,

Went adventuring. Take care of the village. Be back later.

Sincerely, K. Quickfoot"

I'm not sure offhand what ink and parchment costs, but just make up a number and add the 2 silver to it and I'll take it off her sheet. Speaking of her sheet...I ought to post that.

"Fun indeed; sounds like a chance to do something more! Let's try and find a place to sleep; I don't relish the thought of heading back for the night or camping. Do we want to get a room at the inn?"

"I guess we could take a room here... We all need a good night sleep at this point, especially if we're going to spend the day researching tomorrow." Then after a sigh, getting up from his small chair, continues: "I'm very excited guys, we got a lot of info and I'm sure tomorrow we'll be able to uncover even more on the matter!"

Then goes to the innkeeper, hands him 2 silver coins for the night and heads upstairs, both his mind and body tired, but excited.

"Lets just use that guy's room? It's already rented right?" shrug "Might as well since it's just sitting there huh?"

You all find rooms in various places -- the Tiny Lancer, the Sleeping Wolf, etc.  In the morning you wake up rested, ready to start the day.

After a night spent in inns (or trees), you all arise and recongregate in Market Square, near the Tiny Lancer.  There, you divide into groups to do some information gathering.

Group 1 (Legion, Snowy, Kara) --

Legion puts on Khatyan's face and strolls around, fishing for more reactions, while Kara and her "pet cat" ask questions of passersby.  ((Gather info checks, please.  Lower scores will assist higher scores, and you get a +2 circumstance bonus since you have "Khatyan" with you.))

Discussing your destination, you realize you have no idea what sort of library you might find in Silverhaven (before you've always been restricted to the Market with Squire Mainor).  Asking around, you discover... that there isn't much.  Apparently Silverhaven is more of a martial/frontier city, and few people care about compiling knowledge since they don't see it as very "practical".  However, there are two resources that you are able to dig up.  The first is an irascible gnomish wizard named Hedlun Oaenskor ((fyi, pronounced "wayne-score")), who is the only mage of any reputation in town (though that reputation is rather poor... he has a bad temper and is something of a lush).  The second is at the Keep, where Lord Kimbrel Fontaine, being an aspiring amateur historian now that he's too old to be a career soldier, is rumored to have collected a sizable number of ancient and esoteric tomes.

Where to first?

((Wow... you guys rolled bad.  Haha.  So, Snowy's 12 + 4 for the aids + 2 for the circumstance bonus = 18.  Not horrendous.))

Apparently, despite whatever friction he had with Doolin's livery stable, Khatyan was a relatively innocuous person.  Those around town who had met him (not as many as you'd think) say he was amiable enough, simply asking questions about the area's history and looking thoughtful.  Everyone had been suspicious of him because of the plague, but he showed no symptoms and no one else got sick, so he was no worse than any of the other refugees fleeing North.

He seems to have spent a large amount of time at a particular store -- a shop selling furs and pelts from above the snow line, run by a trapper and ranger named Zim Widdle.  Widdle has a reputation as a competent man, and is sometimes hired as a guide by those who need one.
