Barkskin is definitely handy for Core Druids, so they don't have to choose between a Periapt of Wisdom or an Amulet of Natural Armor. Also fits nicely with Wildshape, bringing a tankish form's AC up even higher. As a bonus, their animal companion gets it shared for free.

Not to many clever uses for it though.
Hmm.

too bad its not like the ole' WoW armor buff where it gives out damage when hit in melee.... would be an awesome use of fell drain or fell frighten.

FIREBALL

Broken Power Gaming
Okay, you wanna break the RAW? Here goes… If the spell requires a ranged touch attack to go through a narrow opening, you can assume you can shoot to make a ranged touch attack to hit something. If you make a ranged touch attack with the glowing pea-sized bead, then technically, it’s a ray. If it’s a ray, then you can add split ray. You can’t chain it, because it has no target line. Still, +2 level adjustment to double the damage? Nice. If you are a DM, do not let a player use this line of bullshit on you.

It's still not a ray. All rays are ranged touch attacks, but not all ranged touch attacks are rays. To be a ray it needs to specifically say it's a ray (usually in the Effect line, but not necessarily). This doesn't.

You got me thinking about this... There are actually quite a few spells that do this in D&D 3.5. The most well known one is probably Fire Shield, but the best one to use with this is probably either Hamatula Barbs or Death Armor, depending on if you can persist things cheaply or not. Hamatula Barbs is 3rd level and lasts 10 min/lvl. Death Armor is 2nd level, but only lasts 1 round per level. Both do damage to anyone who hits you (unless they have a reach weapon).

The drawback for Fell Drain is that according to most interpretations, each target can only have one level drained per spell. So they'd only get a level drained the first time they hit you, not every time.

Well, lets have Captnq just do the run down on those spells for us then eh? I'm sure he doesn't even have to read the entry for the Fell metamagics at this point to do a write up.

So its Fire Shield, Hamatula Barbs, and Death Armor.

Edit Note: A Conundrum... I didn't read the entries for these guys yet but, assuming that you can area/chain any of these spells (or even just share it with your familiar) does that mean each different target buffed with the fell drain would cause 1 negative level? Or would all the buffs count as one spell? If the first option works, then you could utterly ruin several of the AOE melee builds. Whirling Frenzy yourself to death maybe?

Yet one more request: Magic of the Dragonheart out of Dragon Magic. It's a spell that does "stuff" with draconic feats.

Energy Substitution gets rid of the Fireball's fire problem for +0 level. Too bad there's nothing you can do about the save short of Heighten.

Updates
« Reply #131 on: June 20, 2012, 03:57:35 AM »
Update:

Well, I have been working buku overtime. I mean, in the past 5 days, I have worked 91 hours. I am currently mandated to work 26.5 hours. Without sleep. I work for NYS and here's how it works. I work when they tell me. If everyone else calls in sick, I get hauled back to work to work on my days off until they can find coverage. No coverage, I keep working. So, forgive my sporadic updates.

And again, I have no problem with anyone else wanting to jump in with spells they want to take a crack at. Speaking of…

Kauper's Quickblast: It's from the WotC website. I'm drawing the line at Pubished WotC books. I would like to add Dragon magazine/dragon lance/ and On line stuff some day, but right now, I've already bit off more then I can chew.

Fire Shield, Hamatula Barbs, and Death Armor.
Hmmm… I think Acid Sheath would fit into there as well. Speaking of, I highly recommend it for any energy based spell caster. It adds extra damage to all spells that you cast of acid. You could easily use energy sub to change it to include Fire, Cold, Electrial. AND it also does damage to people who attack you. Hmmm… I should work up an entire list of Spells that damage people who hit you.

prestidigitation: Gotcha. I'll run that one tonight.

Magic of the Dragonheart: Hmmm… I will have to look into this

I would point out this is a peer review process. If you have problems with any of my suggested uses, or have uses I did not think of, please post so I can fine tune it before it goes in the spellbook.

I think I may work on inflict wounds next. I've been having fun with necromatic spells.

I like your list, but a lot of the uses are beyond the power of prestidigitation. For example, making a tiny person in a jar yelling "help me" is impossible, since that replicates an existing spell (minor image). Most of the "change" uses probably wouldn't work - change isn't not listed in the spell description, and many of the uses replicate other spells anyway (the 'fix a hole in a bucket' one replicates mending, for example).

Complicated chemical processes (evaporate the alcohol from a drink) are probably too advanced.

The "Sketch" effects might not work. They replicate Silent Image.

The "Trigger" effects replicate Mage Hand.

One thing I wonder about Prestidigitation -- what kind of action is required to make the effects? Standard? Switft? Immediate? Free? The spell is unclear. A lot of your uses (some of the best ones, in my opinion) assume it's an immediate or free action. I guess it depends on the DM. I had one DM who really didn't like this spell, especially the "clean" effect. I was covered in acid, and he wouldn't let me clean it off, though splashing myself with ordinary water did the trick. His reason was that prestidigitation could have "no mechanical benefit."

As I recall, Tome and Blood listed expanded uses for the spell, which are what I believe he's using.

I love sculpted prestidigitation, and even widened sculpted prestidigitation. Unbeatable cleaning, every time. Between that and Unseen Servants (and the horde version), wizards have no excuse for less than pristine living conditions :)

• You could change a piece of paper into scrap of linen, and then change that into a rose. Likewise, you could change a coin into a ring. You could not, however, turn a strip of leather into a piece of paper.

You could arguably turn the strip of leather into a piece of parchment, as both are made from animal skin.
