Didn't the Church do away with indulgences because they are counter to everything the Church stands for?  And wasn't this pope supposed to be all about the actual religion and not the business side?

They severely reduced them because of corruption. These aren't being sold, so it's not business-related.

It's still selling paradise for following the Church, rather paradise for being a good Catholic.

'Following the Church' is part of 'being a good Catholic'. Besides, it's strictly speaking not selling paradise, it's cutting down on the waiting time--if you're still not a good person, and don't repent, you're still screwed. And anyway, it is coming up for a good cause.

It's changed so much since the inception that I don't even know anymore.  I know it used to be you could get in by performing last rites (which was a part of repentance, so it always was repentance).

As for these indulgences, it's still contrary to what the Church was for in the way back.  Or at least what it said it stood for.  Back when the indulgences were bribes, essentially, they were still part of being a good Catholic.  My point is, just because somebody says it's a part of being a good [blank] doesn't mean it actually is a part of being a good [blank].  Now shut up and enjoy the odd and somewhat funny news story :p

Ohio's professional sports teams are usually a laughing stock.  But this past year they posted a Vezina Trophy winner in Columbus, and the team did remarkably well.  Which is good news I suppose.  And next year a good move is being made by putting them in the Eastern Conference instead of the Western.  Making news for a neutral/good reason again I suppose?  Ohio: our only not bad thing is the Blue Jackets.

Christwire's a parody of fundamentalist Christianity.

Not that it's any crazier than the real thing, though.

OMG, yes --- I just heard about this on the radio the other day .... I almost wrecked my car!  :lmao
I'd understand once or twice; but ..... well, the guys on the radio speculated that the 2 people know each other; like she might be an ex-girlfriend or something.

Yeah....the old education guy in Indiana basically forged the grades of a school run by a prominent republican donor to make that school look better.  Emails uncovered that basically say they changed the grades.  They did this to play partisan with the education of those attending charter schools and public schools to make public schools look bad so they could convince the public that charter (private, for profit, and non-profit alike, but mostly this one specific one) was a good idea.
