It's changed so much since the inception that I don't even know anymore. I know it used to be you could get in by performing last rites (which was a part of repentance, so it always was repentance).
As for these indulgences, it's still contrary to what the Church was for in the way back. Or at least what it said it stood for. Back when the indulgences were bribes, essentially, they were still part of being a good Catholic. My point is, just because somebody says it's a part of being a good [blank] doesn't mean it actually is a part of being a good [blank]. Now shut up and enjoy the odd and somewhat funny news story
