Thanks. I'd heard the term, but never actually had it done to me. My friends and I were more into terror humor, as we called it, and would instead link to/email each other things like links to Tub Girl, 2 girls 1 cup, or Mr. Hands (of course labeled as something totally innocuous). I say were because thankfully we've (mostly) grown out of it...

I would be willing to bet it has happened to you, but you didn't get the joke due to unfamiliarity with the meme / trope / zeitgeist.
E.G. Family Guy: when Brian went back in time, and he played on the stage in a parody of Back to the Future, started singing that song. Thus Rickrolling their entire viewership. This was even capped by continuing the parody with the guy calling his cousin "Rick" to help him find that "mediocre sound" he'd been searching for.
The reference in that parody would be lost on someone who did not know the definition of RickRolling at the time. And there have been many other instances in various entertainment modes (TV, Movies, Books, et al.) too.
My personal favorite was Richard of LFG. "Dickrolled".

Perhaps, but I'm pretty far removed from a lot of popular culture. I don't watch TV, haven't played a video game in years, and haven't read much outside of news or journal articles much in the last few years either (aside from these and a couple other boards

There were some amusing parts in that talk, but also some sad ones. For instance, there was a woman who who would have an orgasm when she'd brush her teeth. One would think she'd have great oral hygiene, but alas she thought she was possessed by a devil and switched to mouthwash.

The most notable thing for guys though is apparently scientists have observed that sperm that stay inside the body for more than a week tend to start becoming deformed. Thus it's recommended to "refresh" every week it seems.

You can make armor and weapons from printer paper. Yeah, I can buy them being deadly. Also, there's the "they look like knives" factor, so you have to take that into account.

Also, those ads are very annoying. They had two on the page that had sound. And after the ad ends, it refreshes. So the sound's on again. And they refreshed often enough to slow down my internet noticeably. And since it was Flash, it kept almost-crashing.
