Finally, mannequins that look like real women

In other news, I attended an anime con yesterday and will be going to the second and final day today.  So far it's been awesome.  The guest is a guy named Chris Rager, who many here probably know better as Hercule/Mr. Satan from DBZ, and I and a few people I met got a chance to chat with him.  Just standing there in the hallway chatting with the voice actor is pretty cool, and he gave one of the guys some tips on voice acting and then did a bit of video and such.

And now that I looked at the time...  I gotta go!  *zooms off*

I can't get over the fact that people keep saying this, but for the country they're in those are plus size mannequins.

Okay what country is this and why do people say "real women"? Don't women come in different shapes and sizes? As long as no one's upholding either anorexia or obesity as ideals I don't care about this argument over what "real women" look like.

Where I work (a condo tower), 80% or so of the women I see under the age of 30 are as thin, if not a little thinner, than the mannequin on the left.  And roughly 40% of women 45 or older looked more like the one on the right.  So that means that here, the one on the left is the more "realistic" one.
What do I win?
An awesome-five for mentioning Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.

It is Sweden where women are on average much thinner than here in the US.

I can't say I speak for all guys, but I find that a girl that neither seems like Skeletor's long-lost cousin nor like a blimp can be attractive with the right face, or the right body.

Then again, I like girls for their brains first and their bodies second, so I'm weird.

RE: "real women."  Basically the thing behind that is showcasing a variety of different body types instead of making them one size for everything, which people are not.  And trying to make plus size women feel better about themselves.  That's been going on for years of course since different brands have different "Size 0 pants" and all that stuff.

Second day of the anime con:  Got there in time to look at the brony stuff and it wasn't really interesting.  I watched the Battle Cosplay for a bit, but the stats they gave people were totally out of whack and definitely needed some proper math behind them to ensure tense battles.  I ended up wandering into the video game room and played a bit of Smash Bros before meeting up with some people I met the day before.  One of them apparently had a loaf of bread and some peanut butter and jam with him, so he made sandwiches for people.  The catch with that was he has to use an expired gift card to get the jam and peanut butter out of the jars and then spread them.  Still made for interesting stuff though.

Eventually we headed into a room devoted to a LARP game called Paranoia.  I derped around in that but didn't really do much.  I actually screwed up the game a little because I tried to play as a butcher/provisioner and tried selling stuff only for people to think I was using code for the "Drug of the Month" in the game.  So most everyone thought I was a druggy in there when I never even had the stuff to begin with.  And I got arrested for shaking the newly-elected mayor's hand, and then they backed off when there was nothing in my envelope.

After that was the cosplay contest where a third of the entrants went missing, though there were some pretty good ones.  Then there were the video game finals and the closing ceremonies and I left during the closing ceremonies because my abdominal pains were bugging me a bit.  Had more fun chatting with people than doing any of the events.

So... Yay, socializing!  zzzzz...

One last thing and then I'll stop about this.

Different size mannequins have existed for many many years.  Back when I went to college in New Mexico there was a store in the mall that was aimed at a non-white female clientele, and every mannequin in the store had a big "ghetto booty".

I just have a problem with this specific mannequin photo because people are grabbing it with no context, posting it all over the internet, and acting like nobody has ever made a mannequin that was "realistic".

Note: This rant isn't intended to be aimed at anybody on this board, I've been getting angry at people on facebook for weeks about this without actually saying anything to any of them.

I have a hunch the prevalence of different mannequin "types," especially how long they've existed, hasn't dawned on most people.  I mostly just wrote it that way because that's what the title was.

Totally unrelated:  The Optimus Pine of tables.

I like the mannequins that change size when you spin them.

What? We don't have those yet? Bummer.

50k Euro for small, 70k Euro for largest size... Man, that shit's EXPENSIVE.

Um, huh?  Are you talking about the table I linked earlier?  According to http://www.gildedlife.com/2010/08/capstan-table-by-db-fletcher-designs/ they're between 25,000 and 50,000 dollars because they're all handmade and only a few each year are done.
