Alright, SorO, quit trolling everyone.  We all know that whatever is being multiplied must be expressed in a unit of measurement, whether it is the radius of an area, the length of a range increment, the height and weight of a troll, or the amount of damage being dealt.  D&D just cares about if said unit of measurement is a real world value, such as inches, feet, or pounds, or if it's an abstract value, such as hit points.  No need to go on some pissy rant-crusade about a slight mis-use of the word "range" with regards to the unit of measurement used within it versus its mathematical meaning.  So calm your titties and accept that a range increment's length or distance is measured in feet, has multipliers which multiply (x2 and x2 = x4), and that people are going to mis-use wording regardless.  Because the english language is a horrendous mess, and not as nice and neat and exacting as math.

That wasn't the point, if someone can be a smart ass and incorrectly label something than I can be a smart ass and point out the correct label says he's wrong. You don't like that then that's your problem, not mine.

Just remember, you started down the road of trying to excuse stuff as real world values and it never ends. Jumping, speed, spell range & area, it's all the exact same "it's distance" arguments and you've already agreed to support every single one. And believe me 3.0 does lose it's doubles because 3.5's percentage usage is derived by people like you having their piss rants over Enlarge Spell and WotC's desire to shut them the hell up.

Edit - Updated my sig. :)
If the logical of since range is rated in feet and can be used to measure distance is all you need I figure I'd better spread the word for everyone else on this new "optimization practice". Like Dragon's Razor Edge, razors are rated by the width distance of the edge then the damage added for a sharp blade is a real world value. Also threw strength in there since weight is a real world value and Strength is carrying capacity weight lifting. I don't know anything that actually doubles your strength but hey who cares. I really wanted to get into how HP is really just the collective total of several patient ratings used in hospitals too but I have a text limit. I have seen the light of your logic and everyone should know that things kind of interpretation is highly condoned by you guys no matter the number of contradictions found else where.

Quote from: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#rangeIncrement
Range Increment
Any attack at less than this distance is not penalized for range. However, each full range increment imposes a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll. A thrown weapon has a maximum range of five range increments. A projectile weapon can shoot out to ten range increments.

Range increment is a distance. What's the problem?

I'm just going to point out again that is specifically says it's a distance.

fyi, RC updated all prior rules.

Nice little sig, SorO.  Care to explain how an ability score such as Strength is expressed in a real world value?  Sure, carrying capacity is related to strength, as it is also related to size and biped/quadruped status.  Wait, so are you, according to your sig, saying that being a quadruped automatically multiplies your strength, as does a size increase?  Wow, SorO's sure got this stuff figured out guys!  According to him, now Enlarge Person will give you a +2 to Str, and double it!  18 Str becomes 40!  Because Strength is measured in weight and not an abstract number!  :banghead

Also, what's this "Dragon's Razor Edge" you keep talking about?  And how would its width (or the width of any weapon, for that matter) affect it other than the amount of damage it can receive before breaking?

Yes, spell range and area are expressed in feet, and would therefore multiply multipliers.  You are exactly right that this is why the feats are listed as adding a percentage to it instead of multiplying!  Guess what?  If you could find several stackable multipliers for speed or jump distance, then yes they would multiply each other!  Funny how SorO's "epiphany" is actually correct in his second paragraph there ...

Or we can move on before mud boots are needed.

Did you know, no one ever talks about Artifacts? We ignore because you need a DM to hand them to you, but seriously I bet some of those would be awesome to toss in a game.

The Shield of the Sun is a +5 large shield that gives you spellcasting as a 20th level Paladin with Wisdom 20, as well as SR 15 (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) and prevents the first 10 points of energy damage each round.

That's kinda terrible... except the part about getting Paladin 20 spellcasting, which it explicitly states can stack with your own Paladin spellcasting.

From MIC, Bracers of the Entangling Blast combo quite nicely with Wall of Fire.  You actually get more damage out of using them than just the regular spell, but you also get the benefit of holding enemies in there to let them cook for a few rounds.  Wall of Fire damages a pretty large area.

Oh, and these bracers are Warlock friendly for use with Wall of Perilous Flame.
Are we allowed to extrapolate prices for 3/day or 1/day items to at will? If so, those bracers would only be 3333.33gp (2000/.6) to buy as at will. Custom item pricing is firmly in the DMs demesne, however...
[carefully steps over range multiplier debate]

Well, you could in theory buy as many Bracers as you wanted anyway.  And, when you have 6 or 9 or 12 times a day, that's operationally equivalent to at will anyway.

The only issue would be the pricing.  It seems weird that only a roughly 50% increase lets you go from 3/day to at will.  And, I'd be very leery about mixing the DMG's pricing guidelines with the MIC's.  I don't have the book in front of me, but I recall there being a section in it where they said they adjusted prices in a fairly holistic "how much is this worth to a player?" and "how much of an impact does this have on the game?" mentality.

I tried an Artifacts thread at ruleofcool, but it didn't go anywhere.

Commoner 1 + Artifact = not so dangerous artifacts  ;)

Dromite's racial energy resistance stacks with energy resistance from other sources. It's only 5 points to one type (other than acid), but energy resistances usually don't stack.

Half-fiend dromite, then cast Resist Energy?  :P

Or it depends on if you gave him the Nether Scrolls.  Because then you'd have a Commoner1/Wizard150.  Which frankly isn't that much less dangerous than a Wizard1 70.

The Nether Scrolls are weird.  Either you use just 1 and its no more than a setting specific Book of Exalted Deeds.  Or you use more and wreck the whole game trying to get to the neat stuff.  +30 inherent bonus to Spellcraft, or Craft Artifact sound like good epic caster artifact abilities, pity it also has to come with a gain of 10 levels.

1 Or whatever arcane class you please.

Speaking of BOED, its like the single use, Core Only, Thought Bottle.  It doesn't care if you need 1xp or 20,000xp to level, you get set at the same point within the next level.  Spend all you can crafting before use.  (Repeat 49 times for the Nether Scrolls.)

Came in late to the ritual of vitality discussion, but

I didn't do the math, but I feel like it's possible to get 'free' exp if you level drain yourself and permanently lose a level. Perhaps even doing that for each level you gained, while crafting and gaining those gp back?

On the artifacts, all the major ones are brokenzor. I've seen very few minor artifacts that were broken, though. Can anything find a minor one that is simply too powerful to allow? Artifacts that aren't labeled as minor or major assumed to be major artifacts.

Huh. Here's a bit of an odd combo:

1) Get a psicrystal. Psicrystal Affinity ho!
2) Give it Wild Talent. It can now become psionically focused.
3) Take Psicrystal Containment:
Quote
Benefit: You can spend a full-round action attempting to psionically focus your psicrystal. At any time when you need to expend your psionic focus, you can expend your psicrystal’s psionic focus instead, as long as the crystal is within 5 feet of you. Psionically focusing your psicrystal works just like focusing yourself. The psicrystal cannot focus itself - only the owner can spend the time to focus the crystal.
4) ???
5) Profit.

The crux, however, is whether your DM reads the last sentence as "your psicrystal can never psionically focus itself, even if it gets the ability from somewhere else", and not "this feat doesn't allow your psicrystal to focus itself." I read it the latter way (it describes the normal course of events), but I can see the merits of both sides.

Now... everyone squabble!
"There is happiness for those who accept their fate, there is glory for those that defy it."

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."
