Chapter 2: Haxan

You hear a scream as at least one of the shots hits home.  It about this time everyone notices the chanting of the Haxan as something dark comes down from the sky.  San roll plz.

It drops by 4.  Something flitters down from above into the darkness that your eyes won't let you look at for long.  The Haxan who were chanting have stopped.  One is vomiting blood.  There are screams from the alley.   And noises you'd rather not think about.  Whatever it is, it's done quickly enough and gone, and you and your men are alone on the street with the Haxan.  The darkness is still present in the alley.

Elizabeth reloads her pistol.

Are the Haxan on the other side of the building that I ran through? Do they appear hostile to my men?

They were the ones chanting when all this began.  They look confused and upset, and are looking around wildly.  Eventuslly the darkness fades, and you see three dead men in an alley.  At least you assume so, given whats left.

Once her gun is reloaded, Elizabeth doesn't point her gun directly at the Haxan, but firmly asks:

"What did you summon?! Who was that in the alley?"

"Someone with knowledge of the Science.   Someone clearly trained by us, as drawing out the darkness to obscure the sight of men is one of the first things we teach.  If it isn't one of ours, they know our methods.  That was a Hunter we summoned.  It took longer than usual because something was running interference.  Which means it was someone with significant power.  Who are the men in pieces in the alley?"  ooc: They have military uniforms, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything).

Elizabeth hesitantly approaches the alley. Apart from the uniforms, does she recognize any of them?

Where are the ghouls, currently?

Only one has a face left, and you don't recognize him.  The uniforms are local, but they could be stolen.

The ghouls began running when the shots rang out, and are no longer in sight.  With luck they headed out of town.

"I guess we'll have to see how the truce holds out."

She watches to see if people are leaving. How are her men holding out?

The men are scared as hell.  Both the constables and the Haxan have people scouring the alley.  The current theory is that one of the Haxan, for reasons of her own, betrayed her people's truce, and either paid, manipulated or forced some local men to assist her.  The question is why?  Both sides part for the night without further incident.  You are to meet with the Haxan again in 4 days, and your own people the following morning.  No one is happy, as both sides possibly have rogues.

Before we leave, now that the darkness is dropped, Elizabeth would like to search the alley for any clues, and also make sure no one else is taking or planting evidence.

After, to the constables on her side: "We're going to have to be careful who we include in our plans."

In your search you find a newspaper add torn from a local printing.  Circled on it is an advertisement for an auction at the City Tavern (a local inn frequented by your side of things).

The entity they  called down was strong, but a pack of well learned witches should have been enough to handle it.  This narrows the Haxan rogue down to one of their  more powerful members.

The constable nods "I'll only use men from the old town."

Before the four days, Elizabeth wants to investigate the tavern. When is the auction?

She asks the constable: "What do you know of this tavern or the auction?"

The auction is in 3 days.

"The local inns are where auctions of every sort are normally held, other than slaves.  The locals decided to do away with that when the monsters appeared.  The City Tavern also acts as a local newspaper, gathering place for politicians, and even occasionally a jail.  It holds auction sales and sporting events, for those willing to rent it out.  There's likely some description of whats for sale and by whom in the taverns papers."

If the paper doesn't have more information, Elizabeth looks to find out the nature of the auction, and to see if it might be related to those involved with the alley attack.
