Lily hears the carnage in the other vent and is glad her companions are strong. But, damn, do those things move fast! Her eyes barely register how quickly the creature arrives at its new place in the vent. She aims her gun to where she saw it dash and fires upon the beast. Next time I need to remember a silencer. The loud blast leaves her hand and the bullet whizzes toward the undead.

As if on cue from Hudson the shaft makes a loud creaking noise beneath them just before he fires his weapon. The distraction cost him. His aim goes wild as he glances to his feet and misses his target.

Lily hears the roar of a gun next door and knows her friends are fighting too. Well she didn't know how anyone else felt at the moment but she felt like it was time to go to work. She takes aim again and fires, the screeches following telling her she had struck again. Through the goggles she saw the creature's hot blood pouring all over it's body. Yet it still stayed attached to the ceilings above them and still held her comrade Builder with it's tongue. How much damage could it take?

Builder: grapple check.

No positions on the map have moved yet.

Builder grunts in pain as the thorny tongue embeds into his flesh. With a roar his powerful hands come down, careful to avoid any thorns, he grabs the tongue and rips it free. With another loud, magnificent roar he pulls as hard as he can on the slippery thing until he feels it tear free. A garbled screech at the other end tells him he has succeeded.

Lily can see the beast fleeing down the shaft, it's hot blood spraying everywhere and coloring her night vision goggles.

"Good job"! Johnson yells, "We better get moving, I don't think the floor here is going to hold our heavy asses"!

On the other side Viona screams as gun fire and the screeching echo in her ears. She nearly clings to Hudson's back. "This section can't hold us much longer"! She cries.

The other Creaper fires it's tongue out towards Chuck but the tongue hits the side of the shaft instead, knocking a hole through it that floods light into the shaft as it pulls it's tongue back. "That was too close"! Viona yells. She sounds delirious with fear at this point.

Chuck moves forward, bringing the axe down upon the monster with a wet splat. Whether he killed it or not he isn't sure. But if hadn't the bullet that followed shortly after most likely did. Hudson's ability to shoot was so uncanny he didn't think he ever felt nervous anymore about the former soldier firing into melee. The creature flopped like a ragged doll after the bullet and laid still. The threat appeared over.

(Combat over...for now.)

"You guys okay over there", Johnson asks, moving up to the intersection so he can see into their tunnel. He also did it to disperse the weight on his side too, he was getting a little nervous about that creaking noise. His red L.E.D. light sprays into their tunnel ahead, giving them plenty to go on.

Lily uses her arm to wipe the creapers's blood off her goggles. "Well done, Builder. Hopefully that keeps it from getting too far." She spaces herself from the men, doing her part to balance the weight in the tunnel, and replaces her night goggles. Walking a bit ahead with her gun at the ready, she looks and listens for anything coming their way.

Lily moves up to scout for danger. She hears nothing but the ringing in her ears from the gunfire and the low air compression of the shaft. With the night vision goggles she can see the fading hot blood of the Creaper. There was lots of it. The Creaper was nowhere in sight though on her side. They must have damaged it a lot for it to have run away. She didn't think she'd seen any of the monsters actually run away at any point, no matter how damaged they were. It was strange. But the coast was clear. For now.

"We should get moving if we can", Johnson says, "After this shaft we should be able to drop into an upper section of the hive. Same formations, march?"

"All clear.  Heading your way now."  Chuck places each foot cautiously as he continues; shifting his weight gradually with each step.  With any luck, the shaft will hold long enough to let them pass.

Hudson follows close behind shining the flashlight ahead to illuminate the shaft. He hopes that this was the last interuption till they at least leave the shafts. There's just something about the dark confined area that left Hudson with a feeling of unease.

The party slowly treads down the shaft, picking their way carefully through the dark hazardous tunnel. The dim lights from the few maintenance bulbs barely illuminate their way and the musty air feels thick around them. Underneathe their feet the metal creaks and groans, causing them all to break out in a nervous sweat.

Finally they reach the end of the shaft. Another small door like the one they entered. "Through here", Johnson says, he opens the handle then pushes the door open with his foot, moving into the room with his rifle raised and his LED light on with the grace of a trained soldier. He sweeps the area then puts the rifle on his shoulder. "Those creatures must have went through a vent on the shaft's ceilings. Creepy motha' fucka's, walking on the ceiling and shit, ain't normal".

The room is dark but not as dark as the shafts due to the small light above them and the light streaming from an open vent at their feet. The room is small. Probably only 10 x 10 and is full of pipes running along the walls and ceilings. The light casts a hazy look to everything. There is another door on the other side, it looks heavier than any they have come through so far.

"We can get into a top level of the Hive from here", Johnson says, pointing his light at the vent below them. He walks over to the vent and inspects it. "Damn. It's sealed".

"There are a couple...", Johnson says, kneeling down to inspect the vent. "But I think we can get through here too. Anybody got a screwdriver? I could shoot through it but once we drop into the Hive there is literally over a 100,000 workers in there and they are probably all turned. Not to mention the uh, specimens. It would behoove us to take care once inside. With all the commotion we've already met I'm sure some are already homing in our position". He lowers himself down to look further into the grate, the light shining off his black helmet making him look inhuman as well. He picks himself back up to kneeling position, "Might even be able to rip the bitch off, still less noise than shooting. It looks like a small drop to the floor below but nothing I think we can't handle. Or we can check that door over there. Your call guys, you've survived on the outside by your instincts, which is mind boggling so I'm trusting you to find the way".

"No screwdriver here... I don't mind hopping down if we can get through the vent, though." Lily looks to her companions for further assistance and ponders their options to test death yet again. She checks her ammo and stretches her hands to relax, then firm her grip on the Beretta. "If nothing else, there is always Chuck's axe." She immediately recalls the carnage that simple weapon had inflicted upon so many undead. Would that and their few guns be enough to defeat the 100,000 infected and "specimens" of which Johnson spoke? It will have to be, Lily told herself. We have no other choice.

Chuck says, "Down it is, then.  Getting in will be the easy part."  He pulls his Halligan bar from the shoulder strap.  With one swift motion he swoops the bar under the lip of the vent hatch and pushes down on it like a bottle opener.  After watching it slip out the first time, cursing softly under his breath in annoyance, Chuck takes a slower more methodical approach.

Chuck manages to get the bar underneath the lip of the vent. He pushes the bar away but the thin metal bends and it slips out. The second time he jams it deeper, kicking the other side with his thick boot to ensure it's good and ready before he applies leverage. With a grunt he pulls the bar to one side and the screws give. The entire vent bends in the middle so hard it looks like it may give but the screws are not heavy duty and the whole thing rips off with a metallic scream that's a bit too loud, perhaps causing some of the party members to wince.

"Still better than a gunshot". Johnson says, "But we have to assume they are on to us already from our earlier battle. Remember, down there, we're the hunted. You see anything?

Chuck carefully leans in to take a look around. Jackpot. It appeared to be an empty lab room. The walls and ceiling were snow white, making the steel equipment stand out. A couple computer desks and other equipment he couldn't identify but other than that the room was mostly empty. What luck. The door was even one of the metal sliding one's. Good, they seemed sturdy. Looking down Chuck guessed that Johnson was probably right, it looked to be about a ten foot drop to the ground below.

Chuck leans into the vent to get a better look around.  He's seen these things climbing walls, so it stands to reason they may be waiting on the ceiling out of sight.

Hudson taps Chuck on his shoulder "I think I'm less likely to get hurt from that fall let me go first. I'll get a good look and give the all clear when I'm down there." Hudson listens for any movement before he prepares himself for the fall, puts his feet first in the vent and drops to a roll on the floor below. after landing Hudson looks around the room and checks the ceilings for any threats.

Hudson looks up the vent to the others and gives the all clear for the others to follow down.

Chuck looks around for threats but sees no demonic creatures hanging from the ceilings. "All cl-". Something brushes by him and he sees Hudson dive into the shaft vent head first.

Hudson flips forwards and rights himself, landing on the ground feet first in a deep crouch. Like a ninja. He takes a good look around but the room does seem relatively empty. Standing in the middle of it to the north is several computers on a large steel desk. This desk wraps around the east corner and houses microscopes, petri dishes, and a multitude of other gear Hudson can not identify. On the east side is a door to another room. Looking inside Hudson can see some sort of small break room, coffee machine, refrigerator, cabinets, sink, a table and chairs, comfortable looking recliners and even some giant bean bags. The employees seemed to have it nice. To the west is several curiously placed steel shutters covering the wall along with several colored buttons on the wall next to them. South is the steel door that appears to be the only other entrance to the room.

Lily's eyes go wide with surprise and awe when Hudson shows his circus skills. Pretty flexible for his size, she thinks. Since there appears to be no damage or threat, she decides it's safe to follow. Lily prepares for a much simpler drop-in (after switching on the firearm safety, of course). As she straightens and steps aside for the rest of their party, the former Private I. searches, night goggles on and off, around the doors for any signs of the last visitors to this room. Any clues or helpful hints could make all the difference at this point in the game. And, indeed, it feels like a sick game--like something out of those video consoles the kids play..ed.
