If Nanshork is making a completely new character, would Dalanath still have made it out alive? I ask as it may pertain to some of my revised background going forward.
So far I've got two builds I'm enjoying. Both focus to some extent on being able to hit two or more enemies. Both involve trying to mark a couple targets at a time and spreading damage out.
One is a fighter/barbarian hybrid with the monk multiclass feat to get unarmed strike; I figure that Dunor's hammer got shattered in the escape from the hobgoblin lair, and that Dunor focuses on pummeling his foes since he's without his trusty weapon. This build is more about doing a lot of its damage spread to multiple foes (so less single target), keeping enemies focused on me.
The other is a bit different, a Fighter/Rogue hybrid with double sword proficiency. Focus is on getting enemies' attention and punishing them regardless of whether they attack me or my allies. Damage is somewhat less reliable but gets a few ways of getting combat advantage and/or dealing sneak attack damage. This one may be slightly more versatile in its ability to deal with either multiple targets of a single target at a time, which may be good if we ever go up against a solo encounter. Also has a slightly better spread of skills, and better defenses overall. In this version, Dunor's hammer would still break, but rather than rely on his fists, he'd have picked up weapons from his fallen allies and done his best to slash and fight his way out to escape, relying more on finesse than brute strength. If Dalanath had died, instead I had an idea that maybe his spirit clung to Dunor, who himself had already been near to death. Upon being healed back in town, both spirits bonded to Dunor's body, and so he's taken on some of Dalanath's traits and knowledge.
Either character should prove fun to play, and works well in a party that has characters already fully filling the Defender and Striker roles, instead of just another character in just one role.
