Made dinner for my mom and i.


Margheritta & Calabrese pizza, made on arab flat bread with Minas Cheese, fine herbs, oregano, and fresh basil that i picked myself on our garden. Absolutely, mind blowingly delicious. Accompanying it, portuguese wine and a simple salad(lettuce, tomatoes & onions), which i seasoned with honey vinegar, olive oil, salt and herbs.

Also, i made this pizza for my girlfriend, and she said it was the absolutely BEST pizza that she has EVER had ANYWHERE. Feeling pretty proud of myself!

We don't really have deer down here, and i always wanted to have a taste of deer meat, since every time i see it anywhere, it always looks positively DELICIOUS. I had hog, sheep, capybara, crocodile, horse(sausages), but never deer.

I mean, somewhere i wager there's probably a store where they sell specialty meat and i could conceivably get my hands on it, but, it will probably cost an arm and a leg, and won't taste nearly as good as something fresher.

I heard bear can taste quite good as well, if you know how to cook it. Also, rabbit. Here they're popular as pets, i never had rabbit stew. Heard they're awesome with potatoes, carrots and some spices.

Why can't i stop thinking about food? I keep going like i am, i'm going to end up having a belly like Santa soon.

In my area, deer is pretty common roadkill - heck, if you have a special permit, the state will give you some of the salvageable meat from some of the stuff they get off the side of the road. Plus, hunting is a thing in this area, and all of our venison has been presents from friends of my mother who hunt.

I want to say that it tastes like gamey, lean beef, but it is quite tasty.

Rabbit is delicious, by the way - I've had a whole roasted rabbit, as well as some rabbit stew. You can eat the whole thing, pretty much (the liver is good, I seem to recall.)

Anyways, venison is my second favorite meat I've ever had.  Number 1: moose.  The only way you can have moose is if you kill it yourself, or have a friend who gives you one of their set of 3 batches of meat per year they are allowed to give out.  It's like deer, but better in every way, which is like cow, but better in every way.  Makes great ground meats!  Mmm....mooseburgers....I do like gamey tasting meats though.

Damn, you guys aren't helping. Now i REALLY want to eat some goddamn Venison. And Rabbit. And Moose.

Can a guy on a tourist visa legally hunt in the USA? Curious about that.

You have to jump through some REALLY complicated hoops to legally hunt here in Brazil, and you have to go in pretty deep into the jungle to do so. Alternatively, if you know someone with a large enough property, you can just do it, nobody gives a fuck anyway, it's pretty unlikely you'll ever get caught, especially if it's not something you do regularly. Too bad i don't know anyone like that...

But then again, the only large mammal worth hunting and eating are Capybaras, and, to be honest, i didn't think they were really good. Ok, at best, but suffice to say i have no desire to eat them again. Jacaré(Crocs), guess they're kind of ok, but again, not really my cup of tea. Snakes are again, kind of OK, but not really anything special.

I'm speaking for my general area, of course. I don't really know if down south or in the north there are more interesting things to hunt & eat but i never really heard about it.

You guys have it pretty good there in North America in regards to hunting.

Depends.  Hunt moose?  No.  Hunt?  Depends on local laws and existing licence.  At least in Maine, only a small number of people are allowed to hunt moose, and they are limited to one kill a year, and can only give meat to like three people from that kill.  It's /really/ restrictive because moose are so protected.  And REALLY harshly and effectively enforced.

Jungles are not the best places to hunt large game, because so little large game gets big/is useful to hunt.  Grasslands and temperate forests have larger, tastier animals in them.  There's more room for them to move around, and ironically there's more food for them because there's a smaller density of life variance.

Wow. Really? Wow...

Is it because they're in water most of the time? What the hell? Seems so goddamn arbitrary. I'm suspecting it might have to do with the strong presence the Catholic Church held here since Brazil was first discovered, as a way to enable priests to eat the things... Don't know. I'll have to look into it.

I know some people who absolutely LOVE to eat Capybara. It's a very, very common thing in some places.

I couldn't get past it. Yes, it marbles nicely. If you look at a steak, it looks positively delicious. I think maybe that was my issue with it. You have that REALLY good looking beef, and when you go and actually stuff it in your mouth... Eh. It's ok, but it lacks flavor. It's fat, kind of chewy. Me no likey.

And it's not like i don't like fattier stuff. I love pig/hog meat, nearly all of the cuts are amazing to me.
