My name is somewhat ethnically separate from myself as well. My Searching for my name on Google image returns a ton of black athletes (the most famous people who share my last name are a football player and a civil rights leader, and then one white author), and a few other assorted black people, while I am Norwegian decent. There's I think 3 common ways to spell my first name, and the way mine's spelled is the "non-white" way of doing it. Of course, it also doesn't help that my dad shares an exact name with a famed civil rights leader (also black, down to the spelling, there's no 'h' in their spelling, most people have an 'h'). I'm just glad my name's not Ray...
So I guess mine's not uncommon. It's just that it's spelled like someone who looks nothing like me, and I've had a couple people not know I wasn't black until we met.
PREEDIT: just did the search again, slightly different results. I'm still a black athlete, but there's white people in the fist few results. Not a lot, but some. And the last name (something I did not do before) turns up a lot of the author (and person with the first name of my last name) at first, but later on it's civil rights leader, football player, and professional fighter who apparently has this last name (but spells his first name wrong, there's only one r!).
