Here's another example. By using the following kanji:

雷唾蛙

Which are literally Thunder, Spittle, and Frog, you can write a totally cool technique name... that reads RAIDAA (Rider)

EDIT: Arabs don't write in ideograms, therefore your point about Alladdin is fallacious. (By the by, that's how you spell it if you romanize Alladdin. It literally means "the thief". In the original tale, the character had no name, he was merely referred to as "the thief".)

That sounds unlikely mostly due to the Allah at the beginning, but I suppose crazier things have happened in regards to names (I'd heard this one because supposedly Laddin = rogue, as in the D&D class, with the connotation of thief, and Al is an article, but I haven't actually studied Arabic).

On the contrary, that was to be expected. The original 8th servant was Gilgamesh on the first story, the 2nd Archer. And mama did foreshadow on the previous chapter that there was no 8th class.


Now can someone explain me why the anti-phantasm suddenly doesn't work?

It seemed obvious enough that the only Servant of the main series they hadn't run into yet was Gilgamesh though.

Broken Phantasm is simply overloading a Noble Phantasm with mana and firing it as an arrow. However, note the shield has seven petals. Gilgamesh pulled out Rho Aius, which is a perfect defense against missile weapons.

I was talking about why punch chick can't turn noble phantasms against their users anymore.

But since you insist, Excalibur was an horrible choice for firing against an enemy loaded with magic. She could've shot rule breaker, or that spear that automatically ignores all armor from Zero, or even better, Gae Bolg, the sure-kill spear that's been known to be able to break trough even Rho Aius.

She didn't know what class the Servant was even. Excalibur was a good default for massively overwhelming initial strike.

As for Fragarach, I'm not sure why she didn't activate it before charging in. Maybe we'll find out!
Though...Fragarach only returns one attack. She was hit with a dozen weapons and Gilgamesh could probably survive the damage of any one of them.

More importantly, Fragarach only returns a killing strike/most powerful attack. Gil's most powerful attack isn't any of the swords he chucks.

Gate of Babylon is a noble phantasm and trump card itself. It can summon virtually any attack or protection if not multiple of them. I would expect Fragarach to be able to do something like dumping Gil's treasury over him.

Also, both Archer and Kuro have been shown to know a hell lot of diferent noble phantasms which he tecnically shouldn't have ever seen. So I believe knowing an item from legend is more than enough to trace it. Shiro did trace Saber's first sword (also known as "Chops enemies into pieces 10 times better than Excalibur") and that dimensional dagger from memories and stories alone.

And again, why not Rule Breaker if Gae Bolg and the lance aren't viable options from the start? It explicitly punches trough any and all magic defences. Well, I guess the series would've ended in a blink if Archer simply summoned rains of Rules Breakers against any and every oponent.

They didn't know, and Rule Breaker is going to be pretty useless against the majority of heroes. It has no offensive virtue on its own(it'd only negate magical defenses), so while it might hit, any knight class hero would just shrug the wound off...except for where it can sever a magical contract of course.

The plan was maximum firepower. Broken Excalibur was as much firepower as they could fit in a single attack.

First, whatever hapened to Caster's demise? There was that big battle in episode 14, then episode 15 they're just talking about the aftermath! What did I miss?

You should always read the fine print on contracts. Altough in that situation the crippled mage was kinda screwed either way.

I assume that masters could buff their defenses the majority of the time, but when there's no immediate threat that's just a drain on prana that could have gone to the servant for better return on investment. Rin at least has gems with pre-packed prana so she doesn't need to worry as much about how much to use protecting herself / how much to send to her servant.

...No. Fragarach can only be used in response to an enemy's strongest attack, at which point it strikes first and negates it. GoB is nowhere near Gil's strongest attack.

Yes. And the reason Kotomine goes down so easily in the Fate route is because Shirou attacks him with the same dagger and he's too busy being startled by irony to fight back.

Rin is a genius, yep. She only fails because of things she could have never predicted.

Magical defenses can also be cracked by a sufficiently powerful, focused, mundane attack, Kiritsugu's guns are explicitly chosen for the qualities of extreme penetration power to overwhelm mystic shields, or high rate of fire to drain prana quickly.

Additionally, some Masters are much stronger at ritual or preparatory magic than battle-magic. Sola-Ui mainly provides a superior manifestation for Lancer, Waver is basically best at alchemy(and not combat alchemy at that),
Kayneth is well rounded, but runs up against Kiritsugu's own speciality magic. Tokiomi is another well rounded crafter, but defeated by treachery(can't block what he didn't see coming). his wards are based around his house and they never came into play. Kariya was fucked from the outset, as was Ryuunosuke.

So basically the only two battlemages in the War were Kiritsugu and Kotomine, who have significant experience in mage-to-mage combat, rather than being primarily research oriented, or terrible magi.
