"It's an ooze.  Stupid and slow, but it can split into two when injured.  Keep your distance!"

Galadren shouted, studying the creature for a moment before following his own advice and hopping back away from the amorous mass.
He fires a bolt into the creature, smoothly reloading as soon as the bolt left, his motions now guided by the magic of the crossbow itself.
Then, Galadren decides he's still not quite far enough away, and circles around, still keeping his distance from the mysterious painting but perhaps getting a little too close to the unexplored western doorway.

Dunor sighed. These ruins were becoming somehow deadlier with each return visit.

"We should try to fall back through the other doorway and shut it in here, in case any more of those things come through! I'll try to hold it off..."

He shuffles in next to the creature, wary of earning its ire, but more concerned with giving his allies a chance to move away. The warrior slashes, holding his stance to strike again should the creature retaliate against him or his allies.

Galadren's shot is true and the bolt disappears into the jelly with a sickening squelch. Simultaneously, Theo completes his quick spell and a flash of lightning reaches out rapidly toward the ooze leaving behind the smell of both ozone and something inexplicably burnt in the air.

Dunor slides in next to the creature and cleaves it with his blade. As he fends off and weaves away from cursory lashes from the ooze, he suddenly feels an unworldly cold that chills him to the bone.

Tanthalus, Thespias, Tulugaq, and Shandien are suddenly gripped by a maddening paranoia. A fear that sinks deepeningly into the pit of their stomachs and makes their eyes dart back and forth looking for its source.

As the holy light erupts in waves from the elven cleric, it burns into the unseen creatures. They perversely hiss unseen at the dreaded glow. A mote of angry light momentarily appears next to Tanthalus as it just as suddenly withers away under the prayers power.

Dissolving into blackness, almost folding in on himself only to appear a few feat away, Tulugaq is caressed by worming shadowy tendrils.

Shandien steps to the side as his blade bursts into licks of electricity. Sweeping his blade about him leaving crackling runes in his sword's wake. The jelly trembles and sunders into two both lash outward with elongated masses formed off their main bulk.

The original jelly launches itself at Shandien, Dunor tries to intercept the attack with one of his own but if his blade had any affect, the goo does not show it.


The other launches part of itself in a wide arch at Tanthalus then slides off, flowing around attacks and squeezing past the wall and the elf to get at Thespias.

Galadren peers at the midst of his friends, several of whom seem to be afflicted by . . . something.
It's not coming from the ochre jelly, but something was definitely tearing at their minds . . . wait!
There was something there, right in the middle of everyone - Shandien's blade had slowed just a little as it passed through whatever it was.
Galadren hefted his crossbow and fired at that same spot.
If the shot missed, the bolt would fly on anyway, hit the wall at an improbable angle, and ricochet back into the ooze he had already shot anyway.

The splitting jelly separates just as Dunor strikes and his blade chips the stone off the floor, rattling up his blade and jolting his arms hard.

Suddenly the cause of the madness and unearthly cold make their presence known, the first insubstantial creature wails. The sound pierces your very cores and causes even the stoutest of heart to collapse under its weight.

The source of the madness strikes at the prone Shandien with a shadowy claw. Shandien cries out at the touch. "Arrhhgghh! Spectres! Tanthalus bring the power of your god's light down on them."


Another angry mote of light appears, this one next to Tanthalus. A mixture of shadow and unearthly glow. A tendril of shadow lashes out from it at the elf.
